Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Countdown Begins: Just Four More Films Before Retirement? | CineChitram

Kollywood’s mastermind director, Lokesh Kanagaraj, has consistently held on to the fact that he will retire from filmmaking after helming ten films. While most directors remain in the business for decades, Lokesh believes in leaving a lasting but finite impression before venturing into other areas outside of cinema.

With just a few movies remaining in his agenda, rumors are high about his retirement. The director has also made it official that his future movies under the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) will remain crime-based thrillers, promising new storylines and intense action sequences.

Lokesh made his directorial debut with Maanagaram, an edge-of-the-seat thriller starring Sundeep Kishan, which set his own brand of storytelling. He was an overnight hit with Kaithi, a movie that redefined action movies in Tamil Nadu. He followed it up with a blockbuster hit in Master, starring Thalapathy Vijay. Vikram, starring Kamal Haasan, made him a household name pan-India. His most recent release, Leo, again with Vijay, turned out to be another box office hit.

Till date, five out of the six films directed by him have been phenomenally successful. Now everyone waits with bated breath for his next film, Coolie, which stars Superstar Rajinikanth. With the shooting of the film already done, the expectation is at a peak.

With Lokesh approaching his self-imposed decade mark of ten films, everyone is left wondering—will he really retire, or is there a twist in store? Either way, his contribution to Tamil film is irrevocable, and his next few remaining films will be blockbusters in the making.
