Music director Radhan has responded to director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s critical remarks about their working relationship during the making of the 2017 blockbuster Arjun Reddy. The film, which became a cultural phenomenon, featured Radhan’s widely appreciated soundtrack. However, Sandeep’s recent interviews alleging creative difficulties with the composer sparked renewed attention.
Speaking to the media, Radhan downplayed the controversy, stating, “Sandeep Reddy Vanga is like a father figure to me. Just as one wouldn’t publicize being scolded by their father, I chose not to react to his earlier comments.”
He credited Vanga for giving him the opportunity to compose for Arjun Reddy, adding that without that chance, the acclaimed album would not have come to life. “In any collaboration, disagreements are natural. Some things are worth responding to, others are not. Sandeep’s tone may come across as harsh, but that’s his style—not just with me, but with everyone.”
Addressing the director’s claim that he was unhappy with the final product, Radhan stated, “If he had communicated his dissatisfaction during the first track itself, I would have exited the project. But after completing all the songs, it was disheartening to hear criticism. I chose to take it in stride.”
He further emphasized that not every filmmaker operates the same way, citing his smoother collaboration with director Anudeep. “My responsibility is to deliver good music, and I stand by the work I’ve done. I did not provide substandard music for Arjun Reddy. I remain proud of that album and believe Sandeep is a brilliant filmmaker.”
Arjun Reddy, a romantic drama starring Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey, was made on a modest budget of ₹5 crore and went on to collect approximately ₹50 crore. The film’s success led to remakes in Tamil (Adithya Varma) and Hindi (Kabir Singh), further cementing its legacy in Indian cinema.
