Mandya Congress MLA Ravi Ganiga has criticized actress Rashmika Mandanna for not attending the ongoing International Film Festival in Bengaluru. Addressing the media, he accused the actress of disrespecting the Kannada film industry despite beginning her career in Karnataka.
“Rashmika made her debut with the Kannada film Kirik Party. We reached out to her multiple times last year, inviting her to the International Film Festival, but she declined, stating she had no time to visit Karnataka. She even remarked that her home is in Hyderabad, implying a disconnect from the state. Several others attempted to persuade her, but she remained indifferent. This reflects her disregard for the Kannada film industry and language. Shouldn’t she be held accountable?” questioned Ganiga.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also expressed displeasure over the absence of actors and filmmakers at the festival’s inauguration. He emphasized the need for the industry to actively participate in significant state events. “Actors, directors, and producers must come together for such occasions. Otherwise, what is the purpose of hosting an international film festival? The industry must recognize the importance of government support,” he stated, adding that he knows how to address the issue if such trends continue.
