Kollywood actress Nayanthara recently made sharp remarks against actor Dhanush, criticizing his actions regarding their legal conflict. She expressed outrage over a ₹10 crore compensation demand for using a three-second clip from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her wedding documentary. In an open letter, Nayanthara questioned Dhanush’s principles, accusing him of failing to practice what he preaches. She stated, “Your fans now know your true character,” sparking widespread discussions in the industry.
The issue has divided the industry, with both Nayanthara and Dhanush receiving support from celebrities, directors, and producers. Amid this, Kollywood producer-director SS Kumaran released an open letter condemning Nayanthara’s comments and criticizing her husband, Vignesh Shivan.
Addressing Nayanthara, Kumaran wrote, “You criticize Dhanush for issuing a legal notice over a three-second clip. But what about your husband? Despite knowing that the title ‘LIC’ was registered by me, your husband used it for his film. He even sent someone else to negotiate for the title, and I politely declined as it was related to my story. Yet, he used my registered title without permission. How do you justify that? While you waited patiently for two years to obtain permission from someone more influential, you trampled on me because I am a small producer. This has caused me significant mental distress and affected my film.”
Kumaran further emphasized the importance of respecting legal rights in the industry. “Every producer invests time and money into their films. If you wish to use something for your projects, you must obtain proper legal permission. You aren’t acting for free, yet you attempt to use our footage and titles for free. This dangerous trend you and your husband are setting in the film industry is unacceptable,” he concluded.
