Actor and producer Rajeev Kanakala, who recently garnered appreciation for his web series Home Town, has opened up about deeply personal aspects of his life in a recent interview with Big TV. The veteran actor spoke candidly about past financial hardships, family challenges, and rumours surrounding his personal life.
Recalling a financial crisis his family faced in the late 1980s, Rajeev revealed that his father had borrowed ₹40 lakh on interest to purchase a property, only to be cheated in the process. “As a result, we were left with mounting debts and interest payments. At the time, monthly interest alone ranged between ₹30,000 to ₹40,000, which led to frequent tensions at home,” he said.
He further shared that the pressure of the situation drove his father to consider suicide. “When my mother informed me, I was the one who gave him strength. We went through a lot of difficulties but managed to clear all the debts,” Rajeev added.
Addressing media speculation about his marriage with anchor Suma Kanakala, he clarified that the rumours of separation were unfounded. “Due to certain personal reasons, I was staying with my father in our old house. During that time, such baseless rumours were spread,” he explained.
Rajeev also responded to assumptions about his family’s financial status. “We do not possess the kind of assets people believe we do. We own just one house. Some real estate ventures have falsely claimed that Suma and I have invested in their projects to attract buyers, leading to the misconception that we own land in multiple locations. These are completely untrue,” he stated.
The actor emphasized the importance of setting the record straight and urged people not to believe in misinformation being circulated about his family.
